If you’re feeling stressed and anxious on a daily basis, work is likely the culprit. From tight deadlines to strained relationships with your colleagues, your workplace can easily turn into the stuff of nightmares. Some jobs are naturally more stressful than others, but switching to a more relaxed profession isn’t always an option. That’s why so many people are choosing to treat their work stress with CBD: a natural cannabis product that can fight stress and anxiety, and help you feel calmer and more grounded day to day. Here are three ways CBD can help you combat work stress.
CBD helps you relax after a long day
After a long, stressful day of work, all you want to do is to distract yourself and forget all about it. You may already have your little rituals: cook a nice meal, watch TV, go for a brisk walk. But if you’re starting to find these are not enough, you might benefit from a little something more.
Studies have found that taking CBD can significantly reduce your anxiety levels, making you feel calmer and more relaxed. For example, in this 2019 study, researchers observed the effects of CBD on 103 people over a few months. They found that the anxiety scores of the volunteers decreased rapidly and remained decreased for the duration of the experiment.
If you’re taking CBD for the first time, you may experience a significant improvement in your anxious symptoms. But it’s after a few days or weeks of daily use that you’ll start to feel the full effects: as CBD accumulates in your body, it becomes more potent and relaxes your system more deeply.
If you want to take CBD to fight anxiety, you can go for one of the more classic options, like taking CBD oil or CBD oil capsules. But if you’re looking for a way that turns taking CBD into a ritual of its own, you can also get more creative with it.
For example, why not get a CBD bath bomb or bath salts? These products help you relax by combining the deep relaxation of a warm bath with the anti-anxiety effects of CBD. In a CBD bath, the molecule cannabidiol penetrates your body through the pores of your skin, relaxing both your body and your mind quickly.
Or if baths are not your thing, why not make yourself a luscious hot CBD drink? Making a CBD hot chocolate or a CBD turmeric latte could be the perfect way to get CBD into your system while feeling like you’re really treating yourself. You can make those easily in just a few minutes, using CBD oil and pantry ingredients. Find some of our best recipes for CBD treats here.
CBD could help you sleep more and better
Is work stress getting in the way of your sleeping schedule? Most people who suffer from insomnia also suffer from some form of anxiety.
For example, many people find that the tension and energy from a day of stressful work keep them from falling asleep at night. Over time, loss of sleep accumulates in your system, making you fatigued, irritable and even more anxious. If this is a vicious cycle you’re trying to escape, taking CBD could help.
In a 2019 study, scientists observed that people who took daily doses of CBD for a few months reported much better sleeping scores. Those volunteers were diagnosed with symptoms of sleep disorder, most of which went away after treatment with 25 mg of daily CBD before bed.
The researchers concluded that CBD should be considered as a treatment option for sleeping disorders. And when you consider the safety profile of CBD compared to traditional sleeping pills, it certainly is a much healthier option.
Another study, conducted in 2014, suggested that CBD could also improve the quality of your sleep. For this experiment, researchers observed the effect of various doses of CBD on the sleeping behavior of people with Parkinson’s. They found that a 160 mg daily dose of CBD increased the duration of the patients’ sleep. Not only that, but CBD also seemed to improve the quality of their sleep, as an analysis of their REM cycles showed. Finally, it helped to make their sleep more restorative by making it less fragmented.
To date, there are no studies showing that CBD can also help with the sleeping patterns of those who don’t have Parkinson’s. Nevertheless, these studies are very promising and suggest that taking CBD could help us not only fall asleep but get more out of our sleep as well.
CBD reduces anxiety at work
Our work environment can create a lot of stress on a daily basis. We’re afraid of not meeting deadlines, of not completing a task correctly, of getting on the wrong side of office politics. And then there’s the dreaded moment of giving a presentation or leading a meeting. Public speaking stands at the top of the list of the most common work-related fears. And for good reason: studies have shown that speaking in front of a crowd raises our levels of stress hormones and increases our blood pressure significantly.
Fortunately, CBD may be able to help with those symptoms. In a 2019 study, researchers observed the effects of CBD when taken in a difficult situation. They gave a group of 57 volunteers doses of CBD ranging from 150 to 600 mg. Later, they subjected them to an unexpected public speaking test. What they found was that volunteers who had taken 300mg of CBD felt a lot less anxious than those in the placebo control group. Not only did they report feeling calmer, their blood pressure and heart rate also stayed a lot more stable during the experiment.
This study tells us that CBD could be helpful in fighting the stress that comes with having to speak in public in the workplace. And even if your work-related stress doesn’t have anything to do with public speaking, CBD could help. By lowering your body’s stress response, CBD can help with any kind of stressful situation, whether it’s meeting a deadline, dealing with a difficult person, or going on a job interview.
As the study showed, high doses of CBD may work better in high-stress situations. As the researchers observed, 300 mg of CBD were effective, but 150 mg didn’t make much of a difference. So if you want to start taking CBD to deal with stressful workdays, consider getting a highly-dosed CBD oil, potent CBD gummies, or a CBD vape that you can use throughout the day.
Is CBD legal?
CBD products that contain trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%) are now legal on a federal level in the United States. However, they are not FDA-approved, and may still be illegal in certain states. Check your local laws before making a purchase.
When it comes to fighting stress at work, CBD offers several solutions: it can help us relax after a long day, sleep better, and even handle stressful situations in a calmer way. Compared with a lot of conventional anxiety treatments, it’s also much safer. So if work anxiety is getting in the way of your life, why not give it a try?
